Last week was jam-packed with GLBT news, and on this week’s The Agenda with Joe Solmonese we gave you a wrap-up of it all.

The first piece of big news was that former Marine Staff Sgt. Eric Alva — who lost a leg as the first casualty of the Iraq war — came out as a gay man. Alva is now a national spokesperson for the Human Rights Campaign and is lending his voice and powerful story to end the military’s ban on gay and lesbian service members. We also talked to Rep. Marty Meehan, D-Mass., who was joined by Alva at a press conference last week to introduce the Military Readiness Enhancement Act to repeal “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.” Listen to Eric Alva’s story here, and to hear Rep. Marty Meehan click here.

We also covered some sad news from last week - the death of 72-year-old Andrew Anthos. Two weeks ago, the Detroit resident was assaulted with a metal pipe while his attacker spewed anti-gay epithets. We talked with Michelle Brown — an HRC board member and activist in Detroit — about the search for his killer and what this could mean for increased federal hate crimes protections.

Turning to politics, Associated Press reporter Beth Fouhy joined us live to talk about her beat — the Hillary Clinton campaign. Joe, Mary and Beth chatted about Clinton’s speech to the Human Rights Campaign on Friday and her appearance with Sen. Barack Obama in a civil rights march this weekend. Listen to the interview in parts one and two.

Conservative firebrand Ann Coulter made headlines last week by using the “f-word” in relation to Sen. John Edwards. We talked to author and commentator Susan Estrich, who wrote a book about Coulter, and then took a look at the issue through the blogosphere with Pam Spaulding of Pam’s House Blend. Listen to Susan Estrich and Pam Spaulding.

Finally, after a couple of reschedulings, we were thrilled to welcome Andy Propst to The Agenda. He’s the founder of American Theater Web and you can hear him on On Broadway on XM Channel 28.
