I have to say, last night was one of my favorite shows in a while. It was our usual mix of politics, entertainment and fun — but we had some fascinating guests throughout the evening.

Starting off the show, we were thrilled to welcome Wisconsin Rep. Tammy Baldwin — the U.S. Congress’ only out lesbian. She has been a tireless advocate for the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community and Joe and Mary talked with her about the big win last week on hate crimes, where the bill goes next and the prospects for passing a meaningful employment protection bill. Listen here.

Now that spring is in full force, it’s definitely time to start thinking about summer getaways. Where are the best parties? What’s the must-do lesbian cruise? Where are GLBT families going to be welcomed? We answered all of those questions and more with Ed Salvato — an Agenda regular and the editor of Out Traveler.

Turning back to politics, no one in the media knows presidential politics better than David Yepsen, columnist for the Des Moines Register. Joe, Mary and Yepsen chatted about the 2008 contenders from both parties and discussed the recent non-discrimination bill that passed in the Iowa Legislature. Listen to parts one and two.

If there’s one topic our community enjoys, it’s fashion. Whether you’re always wearing this season’s latest or need more than a few tips to spruce up your wardrobe, Tim Gunn of Bravo’s “Project Runway” filled us in on everything style-related. He talked about his new book, A Guide to Quality, Taste and Style, gave an inside look at the fashion industry and shared what he would tell a “Project Runway” contestant who wanted to stay in the closet.

Finally, Dan Mathews was our in-studio guest this evening. He is the senior vice president of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals and has a new book out called Committed: A Rabble-Rouser’s Memoir. In it he looks back at his life as an activist for animal rights and an out gay man. Mathews had some great stories to tell last night that you can listen to here.

There was a lot on the agenda for last night’s edition of The Agenda with Joe Solmonese

At the top of the show we looked to the Empire State where Gov. Eliot Spitzer recently became the first U.S. governor to introduce a marriage equality bill in a state legislature. Joe and Mary discussed the status of relationship recognition in New York and looked at the political prospects for same-sex marriage becoming a reality with Nick Confessore of The New York Times.

Then two young activists were our guests to share some stories from the road. Haven Herrin and Bram Wispelway have been traveling across the country as part of Soulforce’s Equality Ride which seeks to bring a positive, faith-based message of inclusion to Christian colleges and universities. Hear their stories in parts one and two.

Tickets are selling quickly for this summer’s True Colors Tour featuring Cyndi Lauper so we thought it was a good time to re-air Joe’s chat with Cyndi from last month. You can buy your tickets — a portion of which benefits HRC — on our True Colors Tour website.

We also looked at GLBT rights through an international perspective with an interview I had with Juha Jämsä, who heads up the family project at Finland’s GLBT rights group, Sateenkaari. Jämsä is in the states to learn how his organization can provide better services to families headed by GLBT people in his home country.

Turning to entertainment news, Rex Lee — well-known for his portrayal of Lloyd on the hit HBO series Entourage — joined us. Joe, Mary and Lee chatted about the gay themes on his show, being an out Asian-American actor and his Hollywood insider’s take on GLBT Tinseltown.

Finally, last week HRC’s family project director, Ellen Kahn, sat down with renowned author and educator Abigail Garner. Garner’s book, Families Like Mine, is a groundbreaking look at the lives of families headed by GLBT parents. Garner shared her own experience as a daughter of a gay dad and she and Kahn had some helpful tips on navigating parenthood as a GLBT person. Listen to their conversation here.
